How to send large files in Outlook
Attach a link instead of the file. Outlook takes 20 MB per message with an Outlook.com or Gmail account in the app, 25 MB in Outlook.com on the web, and 35 MB by default for Microsoft 365 work email. Above that, Microsoft’s own advice is to upload the file and paste a link.
The limits, in numbers
| Outlook app, Outlook.com or Gmail account | 20 MB per message | Microsoft Support |
|---|---|---|
| Outlook.com attachment | 25 MB per message | Microsoft Support |
| Microsoft 365 work email (default) | 35 MB per message | Microsoft Learn |
| Microsoft 365, set by an admin | Up to 150 MB per message | Microsoft Learn |
| Yungle, free | Up to 10 GB per transfer, kept 7 days, no account |
Limits from each company’s own help pages, checked on 13 October 2026. They change; the linked page is the authority.
How to send it
- 1Upload the file to yungle.co and copy the link, or use the Yungle browser extension in Outlook on the web.
- 2Paste the link into your Outlook message.
- 3Send. The recipient downloads it in any browser, with no account.
Questions, answered.
Ask us something elseWhy does Outlook say my attachment is too large?
The limit counts the whole message, and attachments grow by about a third when they are encoded. A 20 MB file can be too big for a 25 MB limit.
Can my IT department raise the limit?
For Microsoft 365 work email, an admin can raise it to as much as 150 MB. Messages leaving Microsoft are still capped, and the recipient’s server may refuse large mail anyway.
Is there a button in Outlook for this?
In Outlook on the web, the free Yungle browser extension adds one: pick the files and a link drops into your message.
