How to send large files in Slack
Post a transfer link instead of uploading the file. Slack takes files up to 1 GB each, and on a free workspace anything older than 90 days drops out of view and is deleted after a year, so a link to the file is also how you keep it reachable.
The limits, in numbers
| Slack | 1 GB per file | Slack Help Center |
|---|---|---|
| Slack free workspaces | Last 90 days visible; older than a year deleted | Slack Help Center |
| Telegram | 2 GB per file, 4 GB with Premium | Telegram FAQ |
| Yungle, free | Up to 10 GB per transfer, kept 7 days, no account |
Limits from each company’s own help pages, checked on 13 October 2026. They change; the linked page is the authority.
How to send it
- 1Upload the file to yungle.co and copy the link.
- 2Paste the link in the channel or DM; Slack shows it as a normal link.
- 3Anyone in the channel can download it, without an account.
Questions, answered.
Ask us something elseWhy can’t I find a file someone posted in Slack?
On a free Slack workspace you can only see the last 90 days, and content older than a year is deleted. A link to a file stored elsewhere is not affected.
Can I send a whole folder in Slack?
Slack takes single files. Send the folder as one transfer link and the structure arrives intact.
Who can open the link?
Anyone who has it, so post it only where it belongs. Add a password if the channel is wide.
