Does my recipient need an account?
No. They open the link and download, the same as with WeTransfer.
Can files stay available longer than a week?
On a subscription nothing expires unless you set a date yourself. Free transfers are deleted after 7 days, on purpose: a public link is a key, and one that works forever is a risk left lying around.
