How to send a file over 5 GB

Send a link, not the file: upload it to a transfer service and share the download. 5 GB is past Slack’s 1 GB and Telegram’s 4 GB with Premium, and too big for a USB stick formatted FAT32, which holds no single file over 4 GB. Yungle sends up to 10 GB free.

Ask us something else
Why won’t my 5 GB file copy to a USB stick?

Most sticks come formatted as FAT32, which cannot hold a single file over 4 GB, however much free space the stick has. Reformatting it as exFAT fixes that, or send the file as a link and skip the stick.

How long does 5 GB take to upload?

It depends on your upload speed, not your download speed. About 42 minutes at 20 Mbps and about 8 minutes at 100 Mbps; the table on this page has more.

Can the recipient download it on a phone?

Yes, a Yungle link opens in any browser. On mobile data a 5 GB download is worth leaving for Wi-Fi.
