WeTransfer questions
WeTransfer upload stuck or failing
The usual causes, from WeTransfer’s own help centre: the computer went to sleep, a VPN or antivirus got in the way, or Safari, which it says can hang anywhere between 0% and 99%. Try Chrome or Firefox and keep the computer awake; if it still fails, a service that resumes uploads gets the file through.
The limits, in numbers
| Sleep mode | Cancels a WeTransfer upload | WeTransfer Help Center |
|---|---|---|
| Safari | Uploads can hang between 0% and 99% | WeTransfer Help Center |
| VPN, firewall, ad-blocker | Can block the upload; disable one at a time | WeTransfer Help Center |
| Files on USB or cloud folders | Move them to the local drive first | WeTransfer Help Center |
| Yungle, free | Up to 10 GB per transfer, kept 7 days, no account |
Limits from each company’s own help pages, checked on 13 October 2026. They change; the linked page is the authority.
How to send it
- 1Switch to Chrome or Firefox, turn off sleep mode and close the files you are sending.
- 2Copy the files to your local drive if they are on a USB stick or a synced cloud folder.
- 3If it still stops, send through Yungle: a dropped connection resumes from where it stopped instead of starting over.
Questions, answered.
Ask us something elseWhy is my WeTransfer stuck at 99%?
WeTransfer’s help centre points at Safari, which it says can hang anywhere between 0% and 99%, and at VPNs and security software. Try another browser with those switched off.
Does a dropped connection restart the upload?
On services that do not resume, yes. Yungle uploads in parts and carries on from the last finished one.
Could my file names be the problem?
WeTransfer lists duplicate names and names of 255 characters or more as causes. Renaming, or zipping many files first, helps.
